Worked out with the same prayer-time calculator used in the Zakat Compass app (ISNA angles (Fajr 15°, Isha 15°), the method most widely used in North America). If the month starts a day later in your community, move every row down by one day. Many people stop eating a few minutes before Fajr to be safe.
ISNA or 18°: why Toronto timetables differ
Most masjids in Toronto and across North America use the ISNA method, with Fajr and Isha at 15° below the horizon. Some masjids, especially those following South Asian or Arab scholars, use 18° for Fajr, which makes Fajr earlier by roughly 15 to 25 minutes and Isha later. Neither is wrong; follow the masjid you pray with. This page uses ISNA.
Toronto is far enough south that the sky gets fully dark all year round, so you do not need special high-latitude rules. Around 21 June, Fajr is at about 03:45 and Isha at about 22:53 (EDT).
Hanafi or Shafi’i Asr in Toronto
The GTA has large Pakistani, Indian and Afghan communities who mostly follow the later Hanafi Asr, and large Arab and Somali communities who mostly follow the earlier Shafi’i time. In late October the gap is about 40 minutes. Pick yours above and the page remembers it on this device.
Qibla from Toronto
From Toronto the Qibla is about 54.6° clockwise from true north, which is north-east, not south-east as many people expect. That is because the shortest path on the globe from Canada to Makkah curves up over the Atlantic. In Toronto a phone compass reads about 10° west of true north, so a compass app that corrects for this gives the best result. You can also use the free Qibla compass in the Zakat Compass app.
