Worked out with the same prayer-time calculator used in the Zakat Compass app (Muslim World League angles (Fajr 18°, Isha 17°), with a night-fraction rule in summer). If the month starts a day later in your community, move every row down by one day. Many people stop eating a few minutes before Fajr to be safe.

Why London prayer times differ between mosques

London is far north, at about 51.5° latitude. In winter that is no problem, but from around mid-May to late July the sun never goes 18° below the horizon, so the usual Fajr and Isha signs do not fully appear. Mosques solve this in different ways: some use a fixed fraction of the night, some use the nearest day when the signs were visible, and some follow the timetable of a large central mosque. That is why two London mosques can show Fajr 30 minutes or more apart in June.

The table above follows the Muslim World League angles and, when the sky never gets dark enough, a night-fraction rule. Around 21 June this gives Fajr at about 02:30 and Isha at about 23:26 (BST). If your mosque uses a different rule, follow your mosque.

Hanafi or Shafi’i Asr in London

Many London Muslims, especially families from Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, follow the Hanafi Asr time, which starts later. Arab, Somali and Malaysian communities more often follow the earlier Shafi’i time. In late October the gap is about 40 minutes. Choose your Asr above and the page remembers it on this device.

Qibla from London

From London the Qibla is about 119° clockwise from true north, a little south of south-east. A phone compass points to magnetic north, which in London is now very close to true north, so the difference is tiny. You can also use the free Qibla compass in the Zakat Compass app.

Common questions

What time is Fajr in London today?

The table at the top of this page shows today’s Fajr for London and updates automatically each day.

When does Ramadan 2027 start in London?

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, depending on the moon sighting your mosque follows. The first fast is about 11 h 29 min.

Why is Fajr so early in London in summer?

Between about mid-May and late July the sun does not go far enough below the horizon for the normal Fajr and Isha signs, so mosques use special high-latitude rules. Times then differ between mosques.

Which Asr time should I use?

If you follow the Hanafi school, choose the later Hanafi time. If you follow the Shafi’i, Maliki or Hanbali schools, choose the earlier time.

Which direction is the Qibla from London?

About 119° clockwise from true north.
